Karen started her own design studio in 2005, based in Amsterdam, and works for a diverse range of cultural, institutional and commercial clients since.

The studio distinguishes itself in conceptual, editorial and typographical designs and looks for innovative solutions in the structuring and arrangement of the content. The dialogue between designer and client is an important part of the design-process. Therefor the end result is a relationship between form and content; but a friction between chaos and order. Materials, color and typography are playing an important role in this.

Karen van de Kraats studied Graphic Design at the Art Academy of Arnhem, The Netherlands. After graduating, she took a two-year master course at the Werkplaats Typografie.

Her work has been awarded with the Best Dutch Book Designs and nominated for the Rotterdam Design Awards and the Dutch Design Awards a.o.

Next to running her own studio, she teaches at the Art Academy of Arnhem (ArtEZ).
